Who can join?
Membership recognises your competence for engineering practice as a Professional Member (MIPENZ), Technical Member (TIPENZ) or Associate Member (AIPENZ).
Typically, you'll have four to six years’ experience in the industry after graduation. You’ll need to demonstrate your competence for independent practice against the appropriate competence standard for your area of expertise. If you don’t have a relevant accredited qualification, you’ll first need to take a knowledge assessment.
If you’ve been practising overseas and have already had a competence assessment from a signatory of the Washington, Sydney or Dublin Accords, you may be eligible for Membership without being reassessed.
When applying for Membership for the first time, why not apply for Registration as well? We operate a single assessment process for competence-based Membership and Registration applications.
How to apply

If you’re not a Member, apply to become a Graduate Member and start your pathway to competence assessment and registration, or apply for temporary access to My IPENZ for a limited time. To apply for temporary access you need to be resident in New Zealand.
