Speed interviewing helps prepare future engineers

Speed interviewing 2017

We all know it’s a competitive world out there – and it’s tough to nail that first job interview.

Our Student Members are the engineers of the future and our speed interviewing nights help them get ready to take that first step onto the career ladder. In April and May, we'll be at tertiary institutions around the country hosting free speed interviewing nights for IPENZ Student Members.

“Speed interviewing is a great opportunity to learn about the questions industry are asking and how to prepare for the interview process. Worth it for some energising advice!”

Speed interviewing is a great way for engineering students to practise their skills for that all-important job interview. In a series of ten-minute interviews, they’re grilled by a “mock interviewer” who then gives them feedback and advice on how they did.

Our “mock interviewers” are engineers already working for major industry employers. When it comes to starting an engineering career, they’re the ones who know what to do – and what not to do. As speed interviewing volunteers they give back to the profession by passing on their knowledge and helping our Student Members take the first step onto the career ladder.

If you’re an IPENZ Student Member, bring your CV, dress to impress and make a great impression. It’s a great opportunity for you to meet people already working in engineering. In fact, students have met their future employers, gaining interviews and even job offers following a speed interviewing event.

"IPENZ speed interviewing offers a great opportunity to get to know students and find out what is important to them in an employer."

If you’re a professional engineer, volunteer as one of our “mock interviewers” and meet engineering students in your area, gain some CPD hours and practise your own interviewing skills. Who knows? Maybe you’ll find your next employee.
